Service: Build a Bed-No Kid Sleeps on the Floor
Service: Build a Bed-No Kid Sleeps on the Floor Oct 17, 2026
8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Guerry Lumber

We're partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Guerry Lumber to help build 100 beds for children in our community that don't have one.

For each 2 hours you participate, you get 1 meeting credit and if you stay for the entirety of the event, you'll get 3 meeting credits!

Everyone who is volunteering needs to be present at the beginning (8AM) for a safety briefing and instructional presentation.

For attire, wear closed toe shoes and dress for the weather since we will be outside. Guerry Lumber will provide breakfast/snacks/drinks but if you want to bring a water bottle that would be good too.

  • Each volunteer is required to fill out an Indemnification Release Form, so you need to sign up at the link below.
  • Children under the age of 12 are asked to be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.
  • Minors 12 and older are required to be accompanied by a legal guardian, for their safety and the safety of all our volunteers.

2026-10-27 17:00:00Z Oct 27, 2026 Club Social: Polio Busters Pumpkin Carving! Oct 27, 2026
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Hull Park (55th & Atlantic in Ardsley Park)

CLUB SOCIAL!

The World's Easiest "Race" for an Amazing Cause

For one evening, we'll channel that Rebel spirit into a cause that has transformed millions of lives worldwide. Rotary has spent decades leading the fight against polio, and we're closer than ever to making history. Every dollar raised helps support vaccination and eradication efforts across the globe.

How It Works

🏃 Participate in the ridiculously awesome 0.1-Mile Fun Run (because we're "this close" to eradicating polio due to Rotary's efforts, we'll run just "this far")

🎃  Run (or walk) with your pumpkin if you're feeling ambitious

🎃  Or skip the "running" part and head straight to carving

🏁  Cross the finish line and celebrate your achievement of you and your pumpkin

⭐  Receive a sticker with a donation to End Polio Now

BYOE (everything) - Bring your own pumpkin, carving supplies, snacks, and beverages (we'll have a few items to help you out with your masterpiece like carving templates and clean up supplies). And because we're some competitive rebels, of course there will be a pumpkin carving contest! Who will produce the best pumpkin? We can't wait to find out!

Sign up for an individual time slot with Read United Day 2027.

Read United Day is the flagship initiative of Read United, reaching students in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties to promote literacy and a lifelong love of reading. Nearly 1,000 United Way volunteers visit classrooms to read aloud and leave behind a new book for each class. In Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties, every pre-K through 2nd-grade student also receives a new book to take home, helping to close the gap for children who may not have books at home. In Chatham County, United Way will continue our pilot reading competition with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, designed to motivate and reward students for reading more books.

Read United Day 2026 will benefit more than 20,000 children across our region—and your support makes it possible.

Steps to Sign-up for Read United Day 2026

  1. Go to https://www.unitedwayvolunteers.org/aem/general/. You will need to log in or create an account to proceed with event registration.
  2. Under “Advanced Events,” select “Read United Day 2027.”
  3. On the next page, read about this important initiative, then scroll down to the “Needs” section. Using the “Search by” filter, you can view sites organized by county. Then, once you’ve made your selection, click the person icon in the top right corner of each tile. (If the number next to the person icon is 0, this means no slots are available.)
  4. Then, select “Respond” at the top right.
  5. On the next page, confirm your registration by clicking “Submit Need Response.”
  6. Send registration email to Ruth Hutson at ruthlight1@gmail.com for 1 meeting credit.

ALL HANDS ON DECK!

We need 20 volunteers (bring your kids, bring your wife, bring your husbands, too) to help us pack up and organize the diapers, food, clothing, and other items that Shelter from the Rain gives out over the next few months.  Don't let the 3 hour time limit scare you away. Bring your metro spirit because as soon as the last bag is packed and the area is cleared, we'll be done!

Be ready for a big group photo in your Metro T-Shirt.  Text Ruth Hutson at 512-657-7697 with any questions.
